Just tested La fonera this week end (the new wifi device from fon.com).

Easy installation, sleek design, two wifi signals (one personal and one FON AP), good intensity.

The cool thing is that it small enough to bring it with you.

Nokia 770 Internet Tablet FCC finally approved

Nokia 770 has been finally approved by FCC, however Nokia won't add VoIP or instant messaging, until 2006 (after it ships).

In addition to Internet and e-mail access, the 770 will come with applications to read RSS news feeds, listen to audio, watch video, and view images. While its 802.11b/g radio lets users access the Internet via broadband wireless, support for Bluetooth enables you to use the tablet in conjunction with a Bluetooth-enabled phone; as part of a personal area network .

Unlike most of Nokia's smartphones, which are based on the Symbian operating system and the company's Series 60 or Series 80 interface, the 770 runs on Linux. It has 64 MB of RAM and a RS-MMC (reduced-size MultiMediaCard) slot for memory expansion.

The 770's landscape orientated touch-screen display measures 4.1 inches diagonally and runs at a healthy 800 x 480-pixel resolution. The unit itself measures 5.1 x 3.1 x 0.75 inches (141 x 79 x 19 millimeters) and weighs 8.3 ounces (230 grams).

Looking for a new phone

Changing your mobile phone is always a difficult question..

firstly you always ask yourself if you really need it now or later.

Marketing campaign always start earlier in a lot of cases you even have web site with features available before the product exist that makes you decision even more difficult.

With the new 770 from Nokia. Nokia is again changing your expectations of your new future mobile phone as well as inventing a new category internet tablet(introduced by the 7710 model). Unfortunately we will have to wait until 3rd quarter for its availability.

Secondly you have to get your key criteria :
So if your first criteria is WIFI enabled mobile like mine you can reduce your list of available device to max 5:
if you are still asking yourself why wifi enable device ask yourself how to save money on your GSM invoices be able to elect voIP provider access cheap plans and be able to access the internet without paying ultra expensive bills and also reduce your roaming invoice.

with this criteria you can choose from 5 models with your own criteria (long battery, weight, photo, video,email...)

- from IP pure model (I am currently using F1000UTSarcom 75% of my time with voicemail to email, a calm and efficient experience)
- to Mixed wifi GSM :-( (Wifi is not everywhere yet however here is couple of model Qtek2020,HP6315, Nokia communicator but you need to have big pocket ;-)
